I guess each package has it's limits for the price, again it depends on your target audience and how much they want to spend. I also like DVD WS, it is a very comprehensive package that allows you to have motion backgrounds but lacks AC3 support and it's text editor is weak.

I would love to convert all my wave files to AC3, import them into SE and link them to the actual video, that way I have more room for an aditional 10 minutes or so of video etc. SE does support chapter points and a few more interesting features, but it does lack AC3 support. I agree which is why the free offer to SE from Matrox is great! Posted: Fri 11:40 am Post subject: DVDit! alternatives? All you are doing is putting VHS (or whatever you use) onto a disc. With no chapter points, you have no interactivity. I think the one word that will sum it all up is Interactivity. With chapter points you can set your DVD up to jump from the end of a chapter to a menu, or to another scene, you can even utilize them to create interactive games. No rewinding and fast forwarding! It might as well be a VHS cassette, except it will be slower when trying to fastforward to another part of the disc. Chapter points are very important, even to the amature author. Just to add to the post before this to asked how important are chapter points. Posted: Fri 10:59 am Post subject: DVDit! alternatives? Of the 3 DVDit! versions, I'd obviously choose PE, but it is still boarderline at best in my humble opinion.Ĭheck out for a complete comparison of the 3 versions. But this still dosen't make it an authoring app.) (apparently PE ver 4.0 will support motion menus. If you ever wanted to do things as simple as Motion Menus to things as complex as Command sequences you will not be able to do it with DVDit LE, SE or PE. In short, it's an entry level consumer product. This software, (and all of it's upgraded predessesors for that matter) lack many many features that allow you to utilize the DVD Spec to the fullest. HOWEVER, it is far from an authoring application. To get me wrong, DVDit!LE is probably fine for the demographic that it is targeted for. Posted: Fri 10:37 am Post subject: DVDit! alternatives? Someone please explain your problem with LE. How important is that? You can still break up your production into smaller gulps and link them or go to each one. OK, so what is so wrong about DVDit LE? It has backgrounds, menus, first play, buttons, your own graphics, links - the only thing I can see that it hasn't got is chapter points. Posted: Fri 12:29 am Post subject: DVDit! alternatives?

Other than that, it's all about Mac or really expensive PC Authoring Apps. If you dare put it on your system, SpruceTech DVD Conductor and DVD Maestro are also real Authoring Apps.(Very little to no support here and doesn't alwasy run the best on O/S's other than NT4.0. If you want a good tool, start with DIDitPE as your bare minimum.

The low end of Sonics stuff is creation, don't be mislead. There is a difference between Authoring and Creation software. Posted: Thu 6:58 pm Post subject: DVDit! alternatives? Hi might want to check out if you are eligible for the free DVDit! SE Upgrade Promotion as shown on our website below: Posted: Thu 4:50 pm Post subject: DVDit! alternatives? Is there an alternative to DVDit! that will work with the m2v format, for around $100? I'm disappointed that the only upgrades available for DVDit! start at $199.ĭVDit LE is weak and barely holds a candle to the powerhouse combo of the RT.X100 and Premier 6.5.īefore I got Premier, I used a $50 Ulead authoring solution that was awesome compared to this.
